What is the IQA qualification?
The IQA (Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice) is the nationally recognised qualification that allows you to quality assure within your organisation. It’s ideal if you want to take the next step from being an Assessor into an Internal Quality Assurer.
What do I need to start the IQA course?
You will need occupational competence in the area you’re assessing and quality assuring and to hold an assessor qualification. If you do not already hold this qualification, then you’ll need to start here with our Internal Quality Assurer course bundle. You’ll need access to assessors to monitor and support as part of your practical tasks – this is something we can provide for you.
What will I get from this IQA training?
You’ll gain a Level 4 IQA Award qualification, plus the skills and knowledge to both understand the principles of internal quality assurance and carry it out in practice. This Award is ideal if you want to actively monitor assessors and their learners but don’t need the leadership responsibilities covered in the full Lead IQA. You’ll also get full tutor support throughout your course.
What training is involved in the IQA qualification?
The course is delivered online with full tutor support. You’ll complete two units covering the theory side of internal quality assurance, alongside practical evidence of supporting and monitoring assessors. Find out more about the IQA course content.

How long will it take to finish the IQA course?
On average, learners complete the IQA course in around 5-6 months. But you can work at your own pace — some finish sooner, others take longer. You will have up to 2 years to complete your course.
Do you provide assessors for the IQA course?
Yes — if you don’t currently have access to assessors, we can provide you with suitable assessors to monitor and support as part of your qualification.
Do I need to attend any classes to complete the IQA qualification?
No. The course is fully online, with flexible learning you can fit around your schedule. All assessments and support are handled remotely, including your assessment study day.

James MacDonald31 July 2022I have now completed three courses with Brooks and Kirk (CAVA, IQA AND AET). I have been very happy with the distance learning process and modifications put in place to stay Covid safe. Some of the course content was outside of my comfort zone but the support and explanations were brilliant. The whole team are friendly, Knowledgeable and very helpful through out. The weekly call to check progress was excellent. The support given to learners not yet in the assessment sector is really good as Brooks and Kirk use learners from other courses so you have access to a cohort of learners for assessment purposes. Hannah Jane31 July 2022I did a CAVA and AET course last year. The team were on hand all the way through whenever I needed them. Feedback was clear and quick so I could work on the paper again if needed. I’m a technophobe but the site was easy to navigate. In the future I would use them again.
IQA Course Content
The entire IQA training course typically takes around 5-6 months to complete, assuming a study commitment of a few hours per week. Throughout this time, you will submit assignments on our virtual learning environment, complete an assessments day with fellow trainee IQAs, and receive ongoing support from tutors.

Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internal Quality Assurance
In Unit 1, you’ll cover the theory behind internal quality assurance (IQA). This unit is completed fully online through Brooks and Kirk’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), where you’ll find a range of resources designed to help you. You’ll also have unlimited tutor support whenever you need it.

Unit 2 – Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment
Unit 2 is all about putting theory into practice. You’ll monitor the work of two assessors, each assessing at least two learners. To give you real experience, we’ll involve you in our existing IQA systems, where you’ll take part in an assessment day with our Assessor qualifications.
On the day, you’ll be fully supported by one of our tutors. This is your chance to put what you’ve learned in Unit 1 into action. After the assessment day, you’ll complete some written assignments online through the VLE.
