Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

The first unit in the assessor training course focuses on developing a strong theoretical foundation. It covers the fundamental principles and practices of assessment, emphasising the role and responsibilities of an assessor. This unit is completed through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) provided by Brooks and Kirk, the training provider. The VLE offers a variety of educational resources, such as videos and learning materials, to support learners in their assignments. Additionally, learners have access to unlimited tutor support, ensuring they receive guidance and assistance throughout the unit.

Unit 2 – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

Unit 2 concentrates on assessing learners in their actual work environments. To enhance practical understanding, a face-to-face study day is arranged at one of Brooks and Kirk’s offices located in London (Fulham), Manchester, Coventry, or Boston (Lincolnshire). During this study day, trainee assessors collaborate with up to four other learners and a tutor from Brooks and Kirk. This interactive session allows participants to apply their knowledge and receive expert guidance. Following the study day, written assignments related to the unit are completed on the VLE, similar to Unit 1.

Unit 3 – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

The final unit of the assessor training course focuses on assessing learners’ vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding within a learning environment. Similar to Unit 2, part of this unit is completed during the face-to-face study day, where trainee assessors work together with their peers and tutor. The remaining assignments associated with Unit 3 are subsequently completed on the VLE, ensuring a blended learning approach that combines practical experience with theoretical understanding.

Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

Unit 1 of our IQA course is designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge of internal quality assurance in the assessment process. This unit is delivered entirely online through our user-friendly Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). By accessing our VLE, you will have access to a wide range of learning resources tailored to this unit. Additionally, you will receive unlimited tutor support to ensure a seamless learning experience.

Unit 2- Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

Moving on to Unit 2, trainee IQAs will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting. In this unit, you will be required to monitor the work of two assessors, each overseeing a minimum of two learners. To provide you with real-world experience, we will integrate you into our existing IQA systems, allowing you to assess our Assessor qualifications. This unit is primarily delivered in a face-to-face format, offering you the chance to interact with trainers and fellow participants. You can choose to attend the sessions at one of our conveniently located offices in London (Fulham), Manchester, Coventry, or Boston (Lincolnshire).

Unit 1 – Understanding Roles, Responsibilities, and Relationships in Education and Training

In this knowledge-based unit, you will delve into the roles and responsibilities of a teacher in the Further Education sector. This unit is conveniently offered in an online format through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Through the VLE, you will have access to a wide range of learning resources tailored to support your understanding of the subject matter. Additionally, our online platform provides unlimited tutor support, ensuring you receive the guidance you need throughout your learning journey.

Unit 4 – Facilitate Learning and Development in Groups

Unit 4 offers a practical aspect to your learning experience. You will have the opportunity to deliver a micro-teach session, where you will plan, deliver, and evaluate a short teaching session. This practical exercise allows you to gain valuable insights into the process of inclusive teaching and learning. This assessment will be completed fully Online!

Unit 5 – Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

Unit 5 focuses on deepening your understanding of assessment and its role in the field of Education and Training. Through this unit, you will gain insight into various assessment methods and techniques used in educational settings. You will also explore the importance of student involvement in the assessment process and learn about the requirements for record keeping. This unit equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilise assessment strategies to support and measure learner progress.

Lesson 1: An Introduction to Apprenticeships

In Lesson 1 we dive into the fundamental distinctions between the old Apprenticeship ‘Frameworks’ and the new ‘Standards.’ This lesson will provide a comprehensive overview of the changes that have taken place in the apprenticeship landscape and equip you with a clear understanding of the key differences between the two.

Lesson 2: Role and Responsibilities of an Independent-End-Point Assessor (IEPA)

Moving on to Lesson 2, you will build upon your understanding of the new Apprenticeship Standards. This lesson focuses on the pivotal role that Independent End-Point Assessors play within the context of new apprenticeships. You will gain insights into the specific responsibilities and duties associated with being an IEPA, empowering you to effectively fulfill your role in the assessment process.

Lesson 3: Assessment Plans & Grading

Lesson 3 delves into the unique aspects of assessment plans and grading in the context of an End-Point Assessment. Through this lesson, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these elements differ from traditional assessing methods. By exploring the intricacies of assessment plans and grading, you will acquire the necessary knowledge to assess apprentices’ performance accurately and fairly during their End-Point Assessment.

Lesson 4: Assessment Methods in End-Point Assessment

Building upon the previous lessons, Lesson 4 explores the varied assessment methods employed specifically for End-Point Assessments. This session emphasises the differences between the old and new Apprenticeships, highlighting assessment methods that are not covered in the NVQ Assessor course. By familiarizing yourself with these assessment methods, you will be well-prepared to employ a diverse range of techniques when assessing apprentices’ competency in their chosen occupation.

Lesson 5: End-Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs)

In Lesson 5 we provide you with crucial insights into the prospective employers for IEPAs. This lesson explores the role and responsibilities of End-Point Assessment Organisations, equipping you with a comprehensive understanding of their functions and their significance in the assessment process. Understanding the EPAOs’ role is essential for IEPAs to effectively collaborate with these organisations and ensure a smooth assessment experience for apprentices.

Lesson 6: Mock End-Point Assessment

Lastly, in Lesson 6 you will have the opportunity to put theory into practice. This hands-on session involves grading two Mock End-Point Assessments, each consisting of three components. By engaging in this practical exercise, you will be able to apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout the course, gaining valuable experience in assessing apprentices’ performance in a simulated End-Point Assessment scenario.
