Education and Training Qualifications

You may have heard of the PTLLS and CTLLS but maybe not the Award and Certificate in Education and Training. The latest Education and Training suite of qualifications replaced the Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualifications on the 31st August 2014.

We offer the following two Education and Training qualifications:

Level 3 Award in Education and Training
Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)

Who is this course for?

The level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly known as PTLLS) is suitable for anyone teaching or wishing to teach in colleges and for those training in industry, business or the public services. This qualification will give you threshold status to teach in the sector which you can be deemed occupationally competent in. It is the first step towards professional recognition in becoming a teacher, tutor or trainer in the sector.

Course Information

Delivery

We deliver this course through blended learning. This means that you will complete the vast majority of the course on our online learning system. But as part of the course, you will also be required to attend one day at your closest centre to deliver your micro teach. If this is the first time you have looked into this qualification then you may be unfamiliar with the micro-teach. It is essentially exactly what it sounds like, you are required to do a mini-teach as part of your Education and Training Award. This micro teach has to be a minimum of 15 minutes long and can be on a subject of your choice.

Duration and Getting Started

As always with Brooks and Kirk, we don’t have set start and end dates for this course. This means that you can get started on your course straight away and either take as long as you need on your course or complete it as quickly as you like.

Support

If you are worried about the amount of support that you will receive because of the majority of the course being delivered online, then don’t be! We can assure you that you will receive all of the support you may require. There is a variety of learning resources already on the online learning system in the form of tutorial videos and links to external sites for research. On top of that, if you ever have any queries regarding a task or feedback you have received, one of your dedicated online assessors is only ever a phone call or email away.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

As this course is an introduction to teaching and training, it is suitable for anyone who wishes to go into the teaching/training industry, regardless of their prior experience or qualifications.

We also offer our extremely flexible instalment options for those who want to spread the cost of their course. The total cost of the course would remain at £325 if you were to pay in instalments.

Why Us

Brooks and Kirk have been delivering teacher/trainer courses for over 20 years now, so we know what good quality training looks like.

One way we can ensure that our learners get the best possible training experience is by requiring that learners deliver their micro teach at one of our micro-teach sessions at either our Birmingham, Manchester, London or Boston centres. We can’t put enough emphasis on how important this is. If you are wondering why this is so important, then you might find our post about ‘The micro teach – The Way it Should be Done‘ a good read.

On top of that, we also offer the following:

  • The opportunity for you to start your course today – No start or end dates!
  • Flexible online learning so that you can fit your learning around you – No need to spend a day a week at a college/training centre.
  • Full support from dedicated online assessors Monday to Friday 9-5 and even outside of normal working hours if necessary.

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET)

Who is this course for?

The level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (formerly known as CTLLS) is a qualification designed for those who are currently working in an educational setting and wanting to enhance their skills in this field. You may be working part time as a teacher/tutor/lecturer and want to progress your career within this sector. You could be working with large groups, assessing NVQs or even working one to one with learners.

Course Information

Delivery

This qualification is predominantly delivered online through our bespoke virtual learning environment. Our in-house assessors have consolidated all of the assessment criteria you need to evidence into sequential, bite-sized tasks. This means no cross referencing for you, no daunting piles of paperwork and no overlapping of criteria you may have covered elsewhere.

We will also need to collect evidence of at least three 1 hour observations, which we can use to demonstrate a variety of teaching skills. This can either be observed by one of us here at Brooks and Kirk, or a suitability qualified individual within your organisation

Duration and Getting Started

As always with Brooks and Kirk, we don’t have set start and end dates for this course. This means that you can get started on your course straight away and either take as long as you need on your course or complete it as quickly as you like.

Support

On our online learning system, you would have access to a variety of resources such as training videos, directed research demonstrations and audio podcasts. You will be guided by qualified teachers and will have access to a dedicated team of tutors and assessors throughout your learning journey with us. Also, if you’re not too great with IT and computers don’t worry, we can provide one to one, on screen support to help you improve these skills too. It is all part of the package.

Entry Requirements

As part of the CET, you will need to evidence at least 30 hours of teaching practice and allow some of your lessons to be observed as evidence towards your qualification.

It also goes without saying that you will need to be occupationally competent in the subject you wish to teach. So providing you have at least 30 hours evidenced teaching practice and are occupationally competent in the area you wish to teach, you are good to go.
