What is the Assessor, Tutor, EPA and Lead IQA Course Bundle About?

The Level 3 CAVA Assessor course qualifies you to assess learner’s competency in their place of work, and their vocational knowledge in learning environments. Upon completion of the CAVA assessor course, you will be a fully qualified assessor in your area of expertise. You will also be qualified as an End-Point Assessor and be able to assess apprenticeships during their EPA.

An EPA is the final evaluation of an Apprentice’s skills, conducted by an Independent End-Point Assessor (IEPA). Its purpose is to determine the Apprentice’s level of competency. Almost all End-Point Assessments require the IEPA to hold a recognised assessor qualification like CAVA, A1, or D32/33. Having a recognised assessor qualification makes you eligible to become an End-Point Assessor. However, there is currently no specific accredited qualification solely for becoming an IEPA.

That leads us to the Award in End-Point Assessment. This Award in End-Point Assessment covers everything you need to confidently apply for a position within the EPA sector. It will teach you the difference between the role of an On-Programme/NVQ Assessor and an IEPA. Upon certification, you will have completed 6 hours of verified CPD which you can log down for all potential employers to see.

The Level 3 AET Tutor course qualifies you to teach in Further Education, also within your area of expertise. It is also suitable for people who are training in industry, business or the public services. This Education & Training course is the first step towards professional recognition in becoming a teacher, tutor or trainer in your sector.

The Lead IQA course provides you with the knowledge and skills required to lead and manage the internal quality assurance process. This can lead to career advancement opportunities such as management positions. The Lead IQA course focuses on the principles of quality assurance, including the legal and regulatory framework, and the methods and techniques used in internal quality assurance.

The entire assessor, tutor, Lead IQA and EPA course bundle typically takes around 16-18 months to complete, assuming a study commitment of a few hours per week. Throughout this duration, learners engage with the VLE, attend two study days (one per course), collaborate with fellow trainees, and receive ongoing support from tutors.

CAVA Course Content

Unit 1 – Understanding Roles, Responsibilities, and Relationships in Education and Training

In the first unit of the AET course, you will explore the roles and responsibilities of a teacher in the Further Education sector. This unit is completed through Brooks and Kirk’s virtual learning environment.

The VLE offers a variety of educational resources, such as videos and learning materials, to support you in your assignments. You will have access to unlimited tutor support, ensuring you receive guidance and assistance throughout the unit.

Unit 4 – Facilitate Learning and Development in Groups

Unit 4 offers a practical aspect to your learning experience. You will have the opportunity to deliver a micro-teach session, where you will plan, deliver, and evaluate a short teaching session. This practical exercise allows you to gain valuable insights into the process of inclusive teaching and learning. This assessment will be conducted online.

Unit 5 – Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

Unit 5 focuses on deepening your understanding of assessment and its role in the field of Education and Training. Through this unit, you will gain insight into various assessment methods and techniques used in educational settings

You will also explore the importance of student involvement in the assessment process and learn about the requirements for record keeping. This unit gives you the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilise assessment strategies to support and measure learner progress.

Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

Unit 1 of our Lead IQA course focuses on the theory-side of internal quality assurance in the assessment process. This unit is delivered entirely online through Brooks and Kirk’s virtual learning environment.

The VLE offers a wide range of learning resources tailored to this unit. Additionally, you will receive unlimited tutor support to ensure a seamless learning experience.

Unit 2- Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

Moving on to Unit 2, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a practical setting. In this unit, you will be required to monitor the work of two assessors, each overseeing a minimum of two learners. To provide you with real-world experience, we will integrate you into our existing IQA systems, allowing you to assess our Assessor qualifications on an assessment day.

During an assessments day, you will be fully supported by a tutor from Brooks and Kirk. This session allows you to apply your theory knowledge from Unit 1 and receive expert guidance. Following the assessments day, written assignments are completed on the VLE.

Unit 3 – Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility

Unit 3 focuses on developing your skills in effectively planning, allocating, and monitoring work within your own area of responsibility. Throughout this unit, you will learn how to create work plans for your designated area, assign and agree upon responsibilities with team members, and manage relevant information pertaining to the internal quality assurance of assessment. Additionally, you will gain expertise in internally evaluating, maintaining, and improving the overall quality of assessment processes.

Lesson 1: An Introduction to Apprenticeships

In Lesson 1 we dive into the fundamental distinctions between the old Apprenticeship ‘Frameworks’ and the new ‘Standards.’ This lesson will provide a comprehensive overview of the changes that have taken place in the apprenticeship landscape and equip you with a clear understanding of the key differences between the two.

Lesson 5: End-Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs)

In Lesson 5 we provide you with crucial insights into the prospective employers for IEPAs. Finally, Unit 3 covers how to plan, allocate and monitor work in your own area of responsibility. You will also plan and deliver a standardisation meeting.
What is involved in the AET course?
The AET award course is made up of 3 units.
Unit 1 is about the roles and responsibilities of an adult education tutor, and is conducted online on our VLE.
The next unit, Unit 4, of the AET course you will be required to deliver a micro-teach lesson amongst a small group of peers who are also completing the AET course. This is a short 15 minute lesson, This unit is partially completed via assignments on the virtual learning environment and by completing the assessments day.
Your final unit, unit 5, is about how assessment is used in education and training and is completed by submitting assignments on the VLE.
What support will I receive throughout the courses?
Do I need access to learners to assess?

With the CAVA course, yes you need learners to assess. We can guarantee access to learners for you, at no extra cost. It is an Ofqual requirement to carry out real-life assessments with two learners in order to become a fully qualified assessor.
You can use your own learners if you have access to them. Both learners will need to be completing a qualification you can prove occupational competency in, and you will need a fully qualified Assessor from your industry too. You may find it a lot easier and less hassle for yourself to use our learners.

Do I need to be in an assessor role?

You don’t need to be in an assessor role to complete the CAVA course. You don’t even have to have an assessor role lined up. There are no entry requirements for the CAVA assessor course. However, we strongly recommend you have occupational competence in the area you wish to assess in, as employers will look for this.
