Top Tips for Learning from Home
In these difficult recent times, many of us have been faced with working from home in a completely different environment to normal. Whilst people are starting to return to their offices, the past few months have highlighted how hard it is to adjust to learning from home. Being surrounded by distractions is not the best way to be productive in isolation.
The Assessor courses that we offer are blended, which means they are mainly delivered online, with some elements being delivered face-to-face. We are focused on delivering an engaging remote learning service, supporting our learners in any way that we can. Here are some of the top tips we have for learning in a home environment:
Get changed into everyday clothing
Whilst staying in your PJs all day can seem like a great idea, the novelty soon wears off after a couple of days. By making the effort to get dressed in the morning you will feel a lot more motivated to carry out your learning. It also means if you do have a video call scheduled with one of our tutors you won’t find yourself in a blind panic trying to get dressed quickly!
Create a morning routine that works for you
Some people are more productive if they get up at the crack of dawn each morning, and others need a bucket of coffee before their brain can start functioning. (We will leave you to guess which type of people we are!). If you are learning from home it is important that you create a routine that starts your day off in a positive way. This means when it comes to studying you will be a lot more productive.
Choose a schedule and stick to it
Try to allocate set hours in the day that you are going to spend studying. Have time blocked out for work, and time scheduled for breaks. Remember to give yourself a lunch break, or take the dog for a walk in the middle of the day. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential when you are learning and working from home.
Create a dedicated area where you will study
Make sure you have a room in your house allocated to your studying. Ideally somewhere that is quiet, with a door that you can shut and block out any distractions. We have put together a blog on how to optimise your workspace if you need some extra inspiration!
Take regular breaks
All work and no play is not one of the best ways to be productive. Make sure you get away from your workspace when you take a break too. A change in scenery is a good way to reset your mind. Take a trip to the kitchen to grab that afternoon pick-me-up coffee, or have a walk around the park to get some fresh air.
Ask for help if you need it
We hope that you know this already, but remember our tutors are always there to help and support you. If you are struggling, or feel like you are falling behind with your work, give them a call. You might find that a positive phone call is all you need to help get your motivation back again.
Keep connected
Studying from home can sometimes make you feel a bit isolated from the world. Reach out to your friends and family and make sure you speak to them regularly. With video technology advancing very quickly during the lockdown, things like Zoom and Google Hangouts really have come into their own.
We hope this has helped to give you some tips on how to be productive whilst learning from home. One really important thing is to try and stay positive during these tough times (easier said than done, we know). Keep yourself busy but at the same time don’t burn yourself out. Find a routine that works for you and stick with it.
