So, you’ve completed your CAVA and enjoyed your celebrations! You’ve taken a step up and now you’re ready to get stuck into the real work. Now you’re a qualified Assessor! But where to begin? And what to do?

You’re in the wonderful position of having lots of options. In this post, we’re going to take a look at where that hard-earned qualification can lead to next…and how to get there!

What are my job prospects as a Qualified Assessor?

Before embarking on your Assessor course, you probably spent a lot of time looking at where the qualification could lead. But let’s recap!

We’ve taken to the internet to see just what sorts of roles are available to a CAVA-qualified individual right now.

You could become…

  • A Work-Based Tutor (£18-25k) – delivering apprenticeship programmes in your field of expertise
  • A Training Officer (£23k +) – delivering apprenticeship material and completing initial assessments
  • An Apprenticeship Training and Quality Manager (Competitive)– leading a learning quality improvement plan
  • A Distance Learning Assessor (up to £27k +) – assessing and providing remote support to distance learners in your field of expertise
  • A Curriculum Manager (£30-40k) – writing curriculum materials for apprenticeships in your area of expertise.

As you can see, as a Qualified Assessor, you’ve opened many doors in your career – with some tasty salary prospects!

You can certainly follow the path of assessing in your field, but other options are also available in more administrative positions within the apprenticeship and vocational sector with varying levels of responsibility.

How do I access job opportunities as a Qualified Assessor?

Internal promotion

If you’re already working in an education setting, you may be lucky enough to be able to take a step up without switching employers, now that you’re CAVA-qualified. To get an internal promotion, you’ll need to bring your new qualification to the attention of your employer and talk about negotiating a contract change.

Be confident! You have a lot to offer, and your employer should recognise the new value you can bring to the team. If your employer funded your training, now’s the time to take the promised next step.

The job sites

Or maybe you’re looking for greener pastures and a complete switch-up. If that’s the case, the job sites should be your first port of call.

Indeed.co.uk is our search site of choice due to the volume of relevant results it yields. Reed and Monster are also good options, but you may find a greater number of agency posts, course advertisements and temporary positions – making it that much harder to find the perfect fit.

There are many search tactics you can use to find relevant results on the job boards. You can search by:

  • Job title
  • Industry
  • Qualification
  • or by ‘all’.

You’re likely to find lots of relevant results by searching by job title. The problem is you may then miss other jobs you’re qualified for where other titles have been used. As we’ve already shown in this post, a CAVA qualification can take you many places.

Refining by industry is a good idea, as even when you’re a qualified Assessor, you can only work in your own field of expertise.

Searching the term ‘CAVA’ is one of the quickest ways to find roles you’re directly qualified for, but make sure you’re also cross-referencing with your industry. Some companies may use different terminology for ‘CAVA’, such as ‘TAQA’; ‘A1’; ‘D32’. These are CAVA course equivalents/predecessors.

Or, of course, you could simply put in your location without a search term and manually go through all available listings. This method will take longer to find relevant results, but it means you definitely won’t miss a thing.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great tool for job hunting. Not only does it have its own job board, but you can also use the platform to gain access to relevant groups. These might be industry groups, professional groups, or jobseeker groups, for example.

Industry-Specific Job Sites

Additionally, there are a few industry-specific job sites that you can look at! These have become wider known now.  We would recommend using Eat Jobs and V-Selective. They have a wide variety of jobs that are listed daily. From Assessor jobs to IQA jobs. Eat Jobs posts job adverts almost daily! So you are bound to find something that would be suitable for you.
