What is the Health and Social Care Assessor Course About?

The Level 3 CAVA assessor qualification is the ideal choice for those seeking to become fully qualified assessors in their area of expertise, including health and social care. With this assessor qualification, you will have the necessary credentials to carry out assessments confidently and accurately, ensuring that learners meet the required standards set by industry regulations and standards bodies.

This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 who wishes to become a fully qualified Health and Social Care Assessor. The CAVA qualification is, however, not an industry specific qualification; so if you have experience in Health and Social Care, but also for example Business Administration, with the CAVA Assessor qualification you can assess both.

Over the years, the Assessor qualification has changed. It originally began as a qualification called the D32/33, and later on developed into the ‘A1‘. Since 2010, the most up to date and current Assessor qualification is the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement – better known as the CAVA.

Detailed Breakdown of the Health and Social Care Assessor Course

The entire assessor training course typically takes around 5-6 months to complete, assuming a study commitment of a few hours per week. Throughout this time, you will submit assignments on our virtual learning environment, complete an assessments day with fellow trainee assessors, and receive ongoing support from tutors.

The course structure aims to provide a well-rounded learning experience that balances theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing you to become a competent and confident assessor.

CAVA Course Content

Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

The first unit in the assessor training course focuses on developing a strong theoretical foundation. It covers the fundamental principles and practices of assessment, emphasising the role and responsibilities of an assessor. This unit is completed through Brooks and Kirk’s virtual learning environment.

The VLE offers a variety of educational resources, such as videos and learning materials, to support you in your assignments. You will have access to unlimited tutor support, ensuring you receive guidance and assistance throughout the unit.

Unit 2 – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

Unit 2 concentrates on assessing learners in their work environments. For this unit, you will need access to two actual learners to assess. This is something that Brooks and Kirk provide for you, included in the overall price of your assessor course.

During an assessments day, you and up to four other trainees will be fully supported by a tutor from Brooks and Kirk assessing two real-life learners. This session allows you to apply your theory knowledge from Unit 1 and receive expert guidance. Following the assessments day, written assignments are completed on the VLE.

Unit 3 – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

The final unit of the assessor training course focuses on assessing learners’ vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding within a learning environment. Similar to Unit 2, part of this unit is completed during the assessments day. The remaining assignments associated with Unit 3 are also completed on the VLE.
