How An Education and Training Course Can Make You A Better Assessor

At Brooks and Kirk, you may be surprised to learn that the Assessor course is not the only course that we offer. We also offer a Tutor Training course, better known as ‘Education and Training’ or ‘AET’. Actually, it does go hand in hand perfectly with the Assessor course

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training used to be called PTLLS. It is suitable for anyone teaching or wishing to teach in colleges and for those training in the industry, business or the public services. This qualification will allow you to teach in the sector that you are occupationally competent in. It is the first step towards professional recognition in becoming a teacher, tutor or trainer in your sector.

So, similar to our Assessor course, Education and Training is also delivered through what we call ‘blended learning’. This means that you will complete the majority of the course on our online learning system, and then attend a one-day session in one of our offices. On this day, you will carry out a 15-minute (minimum) lesson on a subject of your choice. As always with us, you can start your course whenever and take as long as you like to complete it. There are no time constraints!

How Can Education and Training Make Me A Better Assessor?

Get Your Candidates Through Their Qualification

An Education and Training qualification (AET) would better equip you to teach your candidates on top of assessing them. It doesn’t matter what sector you assess in. The AET will help you to see your candidates meet their learning outcomes for their vocational qualification. If your candidate is struggling with a specific part of their course and you think they would benefit from some teaching in that area, there would be no need to organise someone else to deliver training. With the help of the AET, you would be perfectly competent to do it yourself.

Prepare For The End Point Assessment (EPA)

If you are an ‘On-Programme Assessor’, it’s likely you will be required to have teaching sessions with your apprentices to ensure that they’re ready for the EPA. You will need to support your apprentice and ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) to meet the Apprenticeship Standard. From the skills gained through the AET, you can arrange teaching sessions with your apprentice to develop their KSBs. Therefore, you can make sure that they feel 100% ready for the EPA.

Hilary Read wrote an article for FENews all about End-Point and On-Programme Assessors, it’s definitely a good read for those of you thinking of becoming one.

A Better CV

How good will you look to prospective employers when they see on your CV that you have CAVA and AET?! As a result, they will see that you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan and deliver teaching sessions. Along with this, they will see you are perfectly competent to carry out assessments. What more could they want from one of their employees?

This is why we believe AET combined with CAVA gives you the skills necessary to become a better assessor. If you agree, we recommend you take a look at our Education and Training Qualifications page on our website!

(Also, if you have previously or are currently doing CAVA with us you are applicable for a discount of £40 off AET! Give us a call on 01205 805 155 to find out more)
