Every Learner is Different | Andrew’s Story
About Andrew
Life before Brooks and Kirk
Andrew has teaching qualification from the army from about 12 years ago. In his free time, Andrew is studying for his engineering course.
During the pandemic, Andrew received a government grant to support the self-employed. He realised that he needs to align with Brexit, COVID, and everything else going on in the world, or else he felt he was going to get left behind.
Finding Brooks and Kirk
As Andrew’s Army qualification was about 12 years out of date, for the colleges to be interested in him he wanted to get another teaching qualification. The colleges were asking for the CAVA to evidence his current competency.
Andrew found out about Brooks and Kirk on Google. He was searching through different companies and their reviews, and was looking for something that assesses both in a workplace and a learning environment as the role of an Electrician assessor is very hands on.
Seeing that Brooks and Kirk deliver the assessor course with a more industry recognised awarding body and the fact that Andrew could complete the course in a short timeframe was the winning points for – in fact, he was qualified in 6 months!
Course Review
“Fantastic experience, the feedback was fantastic and the ability to look back at the work given gave me clear details as to what to amend and how to move forwards“
“Its important not to knock the confidence of the kids of today and Brooks and Kirk definitely helped with the delivery of feedback. Keep them focused and retained; the feedback has the be right and the teaching I had will help me to do that. Certain teachers do not care, and you can see how they knock the confidence.”

No matter how frustrated I got going through the course, the staff were always helpful and there.
Life after the Assessor Course
Within a month after getting his CV out into the world, Andrew was offered the exact job he was looking for in Grimsby. This was the stepping stone he needed, and gave him the experience to get a different teaching job closer to home.
The local college he works for were short staffed in the Engineering department, so they asked Andrew. He’s now supporting the engineering department and studying for an engineering course.
Andrew is also in talks at the moment of getting his HNC, and has also been exploring getting his IQA and his CET qualification.
Since he left his CV and details on LinkedIn, Andrew has been headhunted and has had lots of requests for teaching engineering internationally! He is very in demand and feels recognised for his skillset.
In the future, he hopes to teach in the UAE.
Andrew’s Advice
“Broaden your horizons and think outside the box, as there’s a lot of people that don’t recognise the skills they have. Look at the skillset you have that you can pass on to the next generation.”
