End-Point Assessment Qualifications
It’s been a few years now since the Apprenticeship reform; the reform that introduced End-Point Assessment. But every day, there are still many questions surrounding EPA. The main one being: “Do I need an EPA qualification to become an End-Point Assessor?”
You don’t need an End-Point Assessment qualification to become an End-Point Assessor. All End-Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs) and Training Providers will ask that their IEPA’s hold the CAVA qualification; some may also ask for an IQA qualification. One thing that is absolutely for sure, is that no EPAO’s, Training Providers, or any other company that delivers EPA will require their IEPAs to hold an End-Point Assessment qualification.
Why is that? Because there isn’t an EPA qualification out there, that alone, will qualify you to End-Point Assess.
But, as you may have seen, EPA qualifications do exist. So now you may be thinking: “What’s the point in the qualifications existing if you don’t need them?” – and that’s a very good question.
The role of an End-Point Assessor is completely different to the role of an NVQ Assessor/On-Programme Assessor. Because of this, a number of training providers like ourselves and awarding bodies took it upon us to create an EPA qualification.
Award in End-Point Assessment Principles and Practice
Brooks and Kirk’s EPA Award is an exclusive CPD course, designed for trainee and qualified Assessors to update their skillset to include End-Point Assessment. We deliver this course completely online; so there’s no need to travel anywhere. It should take you around 6 hours to complete this CPD course – and therefore, will count for 6 hours of verified CPD for your record.
Why do I need your EPA course?
As we start to come out of the pandemic (touch wood), we expect that there are going to be thousands of Apprentices ready to sit their End-Point Assessments. Every single one of these Apprentices are going to need an Independent End-Point Assessor (IEPA). If you are already qualified to assess, or have practiced as an Assessor, then you’re already qualified to become an IEPA. But as we mentioned above, the IEPA’s role is different to ‘traditional’ assessing. Our EPA course will allow you to adapt to this new role effectively.
What does the Award in End-Point Assessment Principles and Practice involve?
There are just 6 lessons in our End-Point Assessment course.
- Lesson 1 | An Introduction to Apprenticeships
- Lesson 2 | Role & Responsibilities of an IEPA
- Lesson 3 | Assessment Plans & Grading
- Lesson 4 | Assessment Methods in EPA
- Lesson 5 | End-Point Assessment Organisations
- Lesson 6 | Mock End-Point Assessments
So, if you’re a qualified Assessor working with Apprentices; considering a career in assessing; currently training to become an Assessor; a trainee/qualified Internal Quality Assurer (IQA); or working in Further Education and want/need to update your CPD record; then this is the perfect course for you. Of course, if you’re are considering a career in assessing/end-point assessing and don’t yet have an assessor qualification, then the first thing you’ll need is the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.
What do our learners think?

~ John Widdup
“Excellent EPA Award course, whether you are new to End-Point Assessing or transitioning from Framework to Standards assessing. Really helped me embed the End-Point Assessment process and feel confident to start assessing. Great bitesize course material, with frequent self assessment to check your learning and understanding. I would definitely recommend this course for End-Point Assessors.”
