The CAVA is the Assessor Qualification that you need to become a fully qualified assessor.
What Does The CAVA Qualify Me To Do?
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is the most comprehensive assessor qualification that is currently available. It qualifies you to assess learners in their place of work and in learning environments as well. Essentially, this means that upon completion of the CAVA, you would be a fully qualified assessor in your area of expertise. So, whether you need to be able to observe learners in the workplace or assess their vocational knowledge through assignment-based tasks and question and answer sessions in classrooms; the CAVA assessor course would have you covered for your industry.

Alternatively, if you prefer to have a read…
The CAVA involves 3 units:
- Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
- Unit 2 – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
- Unit 3 – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
The first unit is all of the theory behind the role and responsibilities of an assessor – we deliver this entire unit via our online learning system.
Units 2 and 3 require you to assess 2 candidates. If you have access to 2 learners to assess and a suitably experienced and qualified assessor, then you will be able to use these learners. If you don’t have access to 2 learners to assess, not to worry! We are the only assessor training provider that can guarantee access to learners to assess as part of your course.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Furthermore, as we are able to provide you with access to learners to assess, there is no requirement for you to be currently working in an assessor role to be able to complete the course.
Please note: Whilst there are no entry requirements, it is recommended that you have a good command of the English language if you are looking to work as an assessor. In addition to this, it is also important to bear in mind that upon completion of this course, you will only be qualified to assess in the area(s) you can evidence occupational competence in.
You can either:
You will be able to complete vast majority of your course online. Our bespoke and easy-to-use virtual learning environment allows for you to study at your own pace. In fact, the only time-sensitive part of your course is where you are required to attend one day to observe 2 learners in their workplace. This will either be at London, Manchester, Birmingham or Boston in Lincolnshire, dependent on where is closest for you.
You have unlimited tutor support! We appreciate the fact that the majority of the course is delivered online. So, we put a lot of emphasise on the remote support that is available to you. Even if you need assistance outside of normal working hours, we can arrange that as well. This is in addition to the tutorial videos and other learning resources that are accessible on the online learning system 24/7.
Because so much of our course is online, the duration is extremely flexible. So we can’t say how long your course will take as it entirely depends on how much time you will dedicate to your studying. However, it may help to know that the qualification has a Guided Learning Hours (GLH) value of 84 and has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 150 hours. This means that on average, it should take a candidate roughly 150 hours to complete the course after enrolling.
Typically, learners who spend anywhere between 3 and 5 hours working on their course on a weekly basis will take roughly 6 – 8 months to complete their course. But ultimately, if you can commit more hours on a weekly or even daily basis, there’s no reason why you can’t complete your course much sooner.
Please Note: Although we don’t have compulsory deadlines (due to the fact that we feel they add an unnecessary pressure to completing the CAVA), if you feel like you study more efficiently with deadlines in place, we can create a learning plan for you to follow. You just tell us how quickly you want to get the course done and we will develop a plan with deadlines to meet in order for you to achieve your goal.
We are a registered centre with three nationally recognised awarding organisations. These are: City and Guilds, Pearson Edexcel and Industry Qualifications. You can choose who you would like to be certificated by. However unless you state otherwise, you will be registered with City and Guilds by default.
