Jobs That Will Be In Demand This Year
With the skills shortage, there is no doubt that certain sectors and jobs will be in demand in 2023. So to get a head start on the new year, we’re going to take a dive into some of the jobs that will be in demand and what you need to succeed in that job. So let’s get started!
Programmers and Software Developers
Tech is in huge demand at the moment, which isn’t necessarily surprising, as technology is always changing and evolving. So the need for more people in the tech industry is vital. As the UK amongst other countries is grappling with a digital skills gap. As it’s important that workers do actually improve their digital skills, and the skills gap has just amplified it. Meaning people with IT and software development skills are in high demand. Some IT salaries sit around £26,000 so it definitely seems like a good job option to go into.
If it seems to you, then you would need to work on your software development skills, especially coding. So taking some courses would be a great idea to start with! There are many ways you can teach yourself coding, from short courses to Youtube videos. Some other jobs include:
- Software Design
- Computer Science
- Information Technology (IT)
Cyber Security Specialists
This sector is again related to the digital skills shortage. Cyber security is another vital job that is in demand. With tech ever-evolving, there is a need for more companies to protect their information safely and securely, as hackers are trying more than ever to get into secure websites. So this is vital to helping private companies and government organisations keep people’s information safe and secure. Some salaries start at around £25,000 so it definitely looks promising. Other related jobs include:
- Information systems
- Cybernetics
Health Services
It seems to be every year that healthcare services are in demand. Especially this year, with the nursing strikes. Jobs in demand range from managerial roles to paramedics and residential care. So there is a whole range of roles you can go into. Overall the healthcare system is overworked and underpaid, so it’s important that we raise the jobs, just like any of them listed here. They are a vital role in helping people and keeping them healthy and safe.
Health service roles average around £30,000 whilst jobs in care start at £21,00. It’s not an easy career path to go through but it’s one that is rewarding and can have some great progression. Some other jobs include:
- Residential Care,
- Nursing,
- Ambulance drivers
- Paramedics
Architects
It may sound surprising but roles surrounding architecture are also extremely in demand. As the job requires a mix of skills, such as maths, engineering, creativity and communication. The training to become an architect can take up to seven years, so you’ll have to play the long haul. However, salaries sit at around £28,000. Other jobs include:
- Architecture and Design
- Architecture Managers
Graphic Designers
With the digital skills gap widening and technology moving at a fast pace, the need for more graphic designers is high. Whether it’s logos, banners, websites or traditional print, the skills of design individuals are essential. Most, if not all companies and businesses need a website, and you need graphic designers to make them. The starting salaries are a bit lower at £18,800, but it can increase, depending on if you become a freelance graphic designer or work for a company. It also depends on your experience as well. Other jobs include:
- Website designers,
- Computer illustrator
- Digital Designer
Scientists
The STEM sector as well as oil, gas and mining are facing a shortage of relevantly skilled scientists. Meaning physical science roles are one of the most in demand. The starting wage of one is high, at £29,000. Also, the industry is making strides to increase sustainability, as well as lessening its environmental impact. It will take some time to become one, but it is worth the effort when the jobs are in demand. Some other jobs include:
- Geophysics
- Geology
- Geochemistry
Trades
Now this one is a wide range of jobs and sectors. But the trade sector is facing a massive shortage of skilled workers. Especially in vocations such as construction, plumbing, electricity and bricklaying among a few. There’s not been a push into the trades sector and there needs to be otherwise we are really going to struggle to fill the gaps in work. An average salary of an electrician is £29,959. Whereas a plasterer is an average of £29,120. Plumbers and carpenters receive slightly lower, at £27,608 and £27,250 respectively.
So becoming a tradesman seems quite lucrative.
Assessing?
Most if not all of these jobs need some kind of assessment, so the increase in the need for these jobs means that there is going to be a need for more assessors. Especially in areas like Health care and trades as they are practical qualifications. You can also become a cyber security assessor. Becoming an assessor is all about passing on your knowledge to the next working generation. To help them carry on the working environment but also give them the skills and knowledge to succeed.
