Every Learner is Different | Brian’s Story
About Brian
Brian has been married for 42 years, and he has two children and two grandchildren. He has worked in various roles in construction for 40+ years.
Life before Brooks and Kirk
Brian has lived in the Essex area all his life in the construction industry, at various levels from Site Manager to Senior Contracts Manager in his last position. Throughout his 40+ years, Brian has worked for a few different companies in different forms of construction, from new builds, to maintenance, modular and traditional builds, and general civil engineering.
Finding Brooks and Kirk
When Brian took retirement in May 2021, he thought he would put back some of his experience to the younger generation coming into the industry. So, he looked around and was given Brooks and Kirk as a good place to start.
The fact that we had no time constraints on our course was our selling point to Brian, as once he had enrolled on the Level 3 CAVA course, he only took 4 months to complete.
Course Review
Brian ranked his training experience with Brooks and Kirk a 10/10! He says he uses knowledge and skills he picked up during his training with us on a daily basis. He emailed one of his assessors a short while ago with some kind words:
Review sent via email
“Thought I would drop you a line to thank you, Laura and the rest of the team for getting me through the Cava level 3 course.
I have now been offered full time employment with a training company due to my certification taking apprentices through EPA testing and further qualified people through NVQs to gain more professional CSCS cards at Gold supervisor and Black contracts managers level in construction management and building services.
I have been offered the position due to my years of experience and existing certification but without the CAVA cert would not have passed the threshold for the position so thanks to Brooks and Kirk I am now a full time assessor.”
Life after the Assessor Course
After Brian was qualified, he went looking for training companies to supply some work. He had already been completing Q&A papers for construction workers with QFI Ltd, and he started assessing apprentices for them once he was qualified.
He also now works full time for CST Training ltd as an NVQ Mentor/Assessor which he enjoys. All work is from home on a laptop, so ‘no more rat racing or commuting’! Brian works his own hours with his own case load and says he thinks it’s great.
He intends on continuing to assess students until he fully retires.
