We’re back after nice long Bank Holiday weekend, with our fourth Every Learner is Different – We hope you enjoyed your Easter Bank Holiday weekend and ate lots of Easter eggs! It has been a fortnight since our last ELD post and this week, it involves a fitness fanatic called Jodie.
Every Learner is Different (ELD) is all about showing anyone that is considering becoming an assessor, that there are no barriers with Brooks and Kirk. Whatever your area of expertise, age, location, employment status etc, we will have helped people similar to you before. ‘Similar’, but not the same, because every learner is different!
If you would like to be a part of our ELD campaign and share your story, then I’m only a phone call or email away 🙂
Now it’s time to introduce you to this week’s ELD featured learner… Meet Jodie.
Jodie's Success Story Every Learner is Different
Tell us a bit about you
My hobbies include; Travelling, I try to leave the country as much as possible.
Fitness is an obvious one, due to my career.
Also, i’m a bit of a ‘Music Junkie’ as I like Musical Theatre and going to watch Westend shows, when I can.
Life before Brooks and Kirk
I worked in the Fitness Industry for around 10 years. I started off as a gym instructor and did lots of different roles in leisure. Eventually, I worked my way up to managing a Fitness/Leisure site.
After that, I decided I wanted to go into training as I was involved with a lot of training through my job anyway. So I realised I had quite a passion for this, which led me down the teaching and assessing route.
How did you find us?
I googled Teaching and Assessing courses and Brooks and Kirk came up at the top. Then I called to enquire and it went from there.
What did you think of the course?
It’s quite a lot of work and there’s quite a lot of written assignments, but I didn’t find them overly difficult. I really liked the online learning system and that you could upload the work on to there. The resources on there were really helpful too. So the online system worked really well for me, I could just type my assignments up and upload them online.
Overall, the course was really useful, I only had to take minimal time off work. It was really informative and laid out really well. In fact, I thought it was that useful, I actually referred my friend!
Life after the Assessor Course
I work for a company called Lifetime. I got the job just as I qualified I think or I only had one assignment left… So I’ve been working there since September 2016. I work full time as a regional trainer and assessor. I assess and train work-based learners in the fitness industry such as apprentices, training to become gym instructors, lifeguards etc.
I’m covering the Bristol and Wiltshire area at the minute. My original area was Bristol/Westen supermare but it’s now expanded.

Excellent, professional company. Work was always marked quickly with development feedback. I got my dream teaching and assessing job just after I finished my course so I couldn’t recommend these guys highly enough!
That brings us to the end of our second ELD Story. Remember, if you think becoming an assessor could be for you…
