It’s been boiling over the weekend but we are back with another Every Learner is Different – Another fortnight has flown by and we are still lucky enough to have this beautiful weather as well as another learners story, this week we have the lovely Gill.
Every Learner is Different (ELD) is all about showing anyone that is considering becoming an assessor, that there are no barriers with Brooks and Kirk. Whatever your area of expertise, age, location, employment status etc, we will have helped people similar to you before. ‘Similar’, but not the same, because every learner is different!
If you would like to be a part of our ELD campaign and share your story, then I’m only a phone call or email away 🙂
Now it’s time to introduce you to this week’s ELD featured learner… Meet Gill.
Tell us a bit about you
I like spending time with my family and taking our dog for long walks.
Also I like eating out and going on holiday.
Life Before Brooks and Kirk
Before starting the course I was working as a HLTA in a primary school. I had 7 years experience in Early Years ranging from special needs care to managing a preschool. Supporting new staff and apprentices inspired me to want to change my career and take the course.
How did you find Brooks and Kirk
I did an online search to find Brooks & Kirk, phoned the Boston office for information and was so impressed with the guy I spoke to (can’t remember his name sorry) – he had great course knowledge and talked me through the whole process without any “sales pitch” pressure.
How did you find the course?
As the course was so relevant to what I wanted to do I found it really interesting. The main advantage was that I could work at a pace to suit my lifestyle which was perfect as I was working full time plus had the kids/house/dog to sort. The online portal was really well laid out easy to navigate and explained what I needed to do well. The online tutors feedback was lovely and they were quick to get back to me. Although a bit daunting at first, the day in Manchester was really good fun – the other learners were fab, the trainer put us all at ease and seeing real life learners confirmed to me I was definitely doing the right thing.
Life after the Assessor Course
Completing the course gave me the confidence to apply for jobs in Assessing. I started a job as a Regional Trainer in Early Years for a national company. I love it so far and found the base the course has given me to be so useful. A career change is a big step and I have lots to learn but having the foundations in place from doing the course has really helped me settle in.
That brings us to the end of our first ELD Story, in the month of July. Remember, if you think becoming an assessor could be for you…

It’s been such a useful course and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve also found out today I’ve got a job as an early years assessor so it’s been a good news day!
Thanks again – all the Brooks and Kirk team have been so helpful and supportive I really appreciate it.
