We’ve trained a lot of people to become Assessors over the years. These people have all come from different backgrounds, many with different reasons for wanting to become an Assessor in the first place.
We wanted to find out which Industry we have trained the most people to become Assessors, to see if the demand for that industry matches up with the people we have trained. The best way for us to do this was to choose 500 learners at random and make a note of their industry.
Before we go into our results, it is important to remember that you can assess in absolutely any industry, so if your industry isn’t on here it doesn’t mean you can’t assess in that area. It may just mean that there is more of a niche in that sector.
Anyway, here’s what we found out…
Percentage of Trained Assessors in Industries
- Health and Social Care – 16%
- Hair and Beauty – 13%
- Childcare – 12%
- Hospitality – 12%
- Business Administration – 11%
- Customer Services – 9%
- Trades – 8%
- Fitness – 6%
- Education – 4%
- Dental – 4%
- Police – 3%
- Security – 2%
What Does This Mean?
Now obviously the demand for assessors will vary for different industries. The results were not surprising to us at Brooks and Kirk; we know there is a high demand for Assessors in Health and Social Care, Childcare, Hair and Beauty, Business Admin and Trades such as Construction and Electrical.
Particularly for Health and Social Care and Childcare, we have found that the majority of our learners come to us wanting to be Assessors in these sectors because of physical injury that won’t allow them to continue with their job; perhaps a back or knee problem.
But to be perfectly honest, this can be said for any job and it is also a common reason for wanting to become an Assessor in other industries. Just as an example, people in Trades, Fitness, and the Police can also find themselves with physical injuries that prevent them from doing their job efficiently.
However, none of that is to disregard the industries with lower percentages such as Dental; who do you think made sure that your dentist was competent to carry out their job? There is still a demand for Assessors in this sector, but perhaps just not as high as other sectors.
At the end of the day, as long as jobs have applicable NVQ’s, Assessors are always needed regardless of the sector. Even a quick search on Indeed for NVQ Assessors can prove that.
